One of the easiest ways to eat healthy for cheap is to make your own seasonings, dips and dressings. Starting to do this is easy, cost effective and makes sure that you know exactly what is in your food… because YOU put it there.
Our family just LOVES flavors and so moving away from store bought dressings etc. might have been a struggle if we weren’t so gung ho about making our own seasonings. First and foremost, we are frugal, busy folks who love to keep things simple. So homemade spice mixes, here we come!
However, while we have been totally hooked on Mexican inspired dishes and even made a super versatile multipurpose Taco Blend, we also like the cooler, creamy flavors of other dips and dressings such as Ranch.
Homemade Ranch Seasoning Mix
Which brings us to this spice blend… probably one of the most easy and versatile seasoning blends that you could have in your pantry. BEHOLD! The Homemade “Ranch” Seasoning Base Mix.
Why did I put “Ranch” in quotations and call it a base mix? Because as-is this tastes a lot like sour cream and onion chips (my weakness!), and you could easily tweak this base recipe by adding peppercorn, red pepper flakes, etc. to make unique new flavors depending on what you are using it for!
For this reason, this is a perfect base mix to have handy for quick homemade dressings, dips and sauces that can be easily customized for a variety of flavors. Versatility is an absolute MUST for any lazy frugal foodie’s pantry. Why make a bunch of spice blends when you can make a select few and customize as you need to- or just leave as the recipe states!
On that note, we used this blend to make an absolutely OUT OF THIS WORLD pasta salad that I will be posting next week- stay tuned!
